Default Refining the Classic Noob Build

Guys, I think I'm succumbing to a horrible temptation. I... I think I'm going to make a Warrior/Monk. And... now this is pretty horrible... I think I'm going to use Mending.

I know I know. You can stop throwing things.

Not in high-level PvP, of course, but for most of PvE I think it should be fun -- I like soloing sometimes, and being very hard to kill is entertaining. Here's what I was thinking of shooting for:

Mending
Balthazar's Spirit
Judge's Insight
Dismember
Axe Twist
Executioner's Strike
Cyclone Axe
Distracting Blow

That's just the result of a quick trip through Skill Base grabbing whatever looks good, though. I know I want Mending to keep me healthy in the early game (though I could be dissuaded from it if there's a better defense/self-heal option) -- my plan is to move quickly up to the 3 dots of Healing Prayers that'll make Mending give me two pips of regen, and not worry about getting the 9 that'd make it give me three. Balthazar's seems like a great damage adder as you move into the higher levels, and I'd like around 9 Smiting Prayers to keep it going. (should I also be using that for Strength of Honor?) That leaves enough points for what seem like a perfectly healthy Axe Mastery and Strength to me. As for the axe skills, they're kinda haphazard -- I've only used swords before, so I don't really know the drill. Seems like I could probably get away with fewer of them, but those all look pretty handy. Keep in mind this is for PvE -- if I adapt it to PvP, I'll naturally either switch to swords or work in a Crippling axe skill.

Obviously I'll be using Gladiator armor, but I still think energy will be tight. Mending takes up one pip, and Balthazar's takes up another -- how much can I rely on getting back from the latter? I have it in there with the hope that it'll give me enough to still use Judge's when necessary, plus the occasional Cyclone or Distracting.

I've been playing a monk as my RP char, finished the PvE missions and have done lots of PvP. Having unlocked most monk skills the other day I thought I'd roll a w/mo for laughs and drop some serious uber monkage on him... After a few experiments, I found casting Live Vicariously on myself was FAR superior to mending... As long as I was hitting they had a seriously hard time taking me down. I don't know how that would work for PvE but I think it's worth a try, being such a nice skill.

Here's my PvE and knock-around PvP build. Aside from the pug's yelling at me for being a primary monk that doesn't heal, its awesome. I think it accomplishes exactly what you are looking to do.

Mo/W (w/o attribute quests)
Healing 7+1
Swords 12
Tactics 8

Galrath's Slash
Final Thrust
Bonetti's Defense
Gladiator's Defense
Live Vicariously
Watchful Spirit
Mending
Restore Life

Pretty simple really. Cast Mending, Watchful Spirt, and Live Vicariously on yourself. Then, if you have another warrior in your group cast Live Vicariously on him (a W/Mo is best). You will have 5 pips of regen, gain 8hp every time you hit, and gain 8hp every time your friend hits. Throw up Bonetti's Defense when you're taking a lot of damage, and alternate it with Gladiator's Defense for a little extra damage output.

With this build I can easily tank Glint and a lot of the other high level mobs out there. The only thing you really have to be careful about is anything that can strip enchantments.

Virtuoso, does a Healing Prayers of 8 give you two pips of health from Mending, or three?

Three, which is specifically why I stopped at 8.

Um... wouldn't using up two pips of energy regen mean you had NO energy regen at all? Warriors only get two pips, and I don't think they get any way of increasing that number.

Gladiator's gives you extra energy, but not extra regen.

Both of the above builds run with 0 energy regen. It's doable. His uses Balthazaar's Spirit to regen energy and my build uses Bonetti's Defense.

Don't the legs of the Gladiator set give you a pip of energy regen? Maybe I was confusing them with one of the Ranger sets...

anyway, I'm hoping that Balthazar's will bring in a fair amount. I may look at including Bonetti's as well.
